How to Remove Wallpaper

The Painted Horse • August 14, 2024

Wallpaper is a traditional design product that stands the test of time because of its ability to alter space and instill a specific mood. While it offers interesting aesthetic transformation, certain patterns can quickly become outdated, making it necessary to remove old wallpaper and select a new contemporary trend. Today, our team at The Painted Horse will discuss removing old wallpaper, selecting new wallpaper, and introducing our custom collection.

Follow These Simple Steps to Remove Wall

Removing wallpaper can be a formidable task if you don’t have the right tools and instructions. Here, we make it simple.

  • Adhesive or Removable Wallpaper typically peels off easily since it is a peel-and-stick application. It is always best to score it into smaller sections so it is easier to discard piece by piece.
  • Strippable Wallpaper is either pre-glued or applied with glue. Spray it with hot water or a mixture of water and fabric softener, then start peeling down from the top corner. Once again, it is best to score it into triangular sections.
  • Due to its density, Vinyl Wallpaper is more stubborn to remove. If the paper is aged, you will want to score it more deeply and use a professional gel remover or a steamer.

What Should I Consider When Selecting New Wallpaper

Accent Wall or All Four Walls?

You don’t have to shy away from wallpapering the entire room. You can even wallpaper your ceiling. If you wallpaper all four walls, you will instantly create a cohesive look. If you decide to do an accent wall, then be sure you paint the surrounding walls in a color that blends in with and enhances the color of the wallpaper.

Flat or Textured?

Flat wallpapers work best in formal spaces like dining or living rooms. Textured papers offer a casual aesthetic, making them perfect for media, mud, or family rooms.

Pattern Selection

Since thousands of patterns are available, the selection process can be exciting and challenging at the same time. Whether you choose a bold, large pattern, a delicate repetitive pattern, a gentle damask, a unique geometric, or a simple stripe, you want to be sure that it harmonizes with the rest of your décor.
